Who Are We?

Get to know about what we do and what IAAS Bangladesh MBSTU represents.

The Global Seed: History and Evolution of IAAS

The story of IAAS, the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences began in 1957 in Tunisia, born from a vision of post-war cooperation and a shared passion for the earth. Headquartered in Belgium, what started with eight founding nations has blossomed into the world’s largest student-led organization of its kind, spanning over 50 countries and connecting more than 10,000 students globally.

At its core, IAAS was founded on the philosophy of "Learning by Doing." While traditional academia provides the blueprint, IAAS provides the soil, the tools, and the global climate necessary for students to grow into leaders. In Bangladesh, this mission found fertile ground. IAAS Bangladesh has emerged as one of the most vibrant national branches in the Asia-Pacific region, acting as a bridge between the fertile deltas of our home and the cutting-edge laboratories of the world.

IAAS MBSTU: Local Action, Global Vision

The Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) branch represents the next evolution of this legacy. It officially started it's journery with the introduction of it's first committee in 12 February 2020. Nestled in Tangail, a region with a deep-rooted agricultural identity, the MBSTU Local Committee (LC) was established to empower students who are not just studying science, but are looking to revolutionize it.

The MBSTU branch operates as a professional ecosystem. It is where students not only from faculty of life science but also from other fields converge. Here, the focus is about addressing the urgent challenges of the 21st century. From climate resilience and food security to sustainable resource management.

How We Work: The Pillars of IAAS

The workings of IAAS Bangladesh MBSTU are divided into three strategic pillars that ensure every member gains a competitive edge in the global job market:

  1. 1

    The International Exchange Program (ExPro)

This is the "Crown Jewel" of IAAS. It allows MBSTU students to participate in internships and educational exchanges in countries across Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Conversely, we host international students, creating a rich, multicultural learning environment right here on campus.

  2. 2

    Technical & Soft Skill Development

We recognize that a modern scientist must also be a communicator. Through workshops on scientific writing, data analysis, and public speaking, we transform students into professionals.

  3. 3

    Community & Sustainability Projects

IAAS Bangladesh MBSTU believes in the power of co-operation. We take our knowledge from the classroom to the local farmers of Tangail, promoting sustainable practices and helping bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application.

Our Mission: Cultivating the Future

In an era defined by rapid climate change and a growing global population, the role of an agricultural scientist has never been more critical. IAAS MBSTU serves as a training ground for this responsibility. We are not just a club; we are a leadership incubator.

By participating in the World Congress (WoCo) and regional meetings, our members gain a seat at the table where global agricultural policy and innovation are discussed. We strive to create a world where students are no longer passive recipients of information, but active architects of a sustainable future.

IAAS Bangladesh MBSTU remains committed to the spirit of Mawlana Bhashani by serving the people through science, dedication, and a global heart.

Go further, go global.
